Do you know who you are, where you
came from, why you are here, what you are here to do and where you are going when you leave here? Every individual should know the answers to
these questions with a degree of certainty. Examine your life to make sure you know the
correct answers to these questions. They
are very important to your fulfilling your destiny.
Once you realized what your true
purpose in life is, you will be compelled to get rid of, and change some things.
Things
that you thought were very important might not be that important after all. When
you discover your purpose you will be excited and passionate about it. You will
not settle for just anything.
Seriously, have you intentionally
given thought to the questions posed above? Why am I here? Where am I going when I
leave here (this earth)? What will it
take me to get to that place? The day I asked
these questions of myself, and gave serious thoughts to them, I got clarity of
my purpose and I have since built everything that I do around that discovery. These
are questions that I encourage my coaching clients to ask themselves.
Having the answers to these
questions help me to take the right actions daily to stay focused. I seek divine guidance and stick to a specific
plan of action. I do get distractions
throughout the day, but I consciously stay in control of my time. I often find myself helping others, through
encouragement and accountability to make sure they are doing what they have said
they want to do.
Sometimes, we have to abandon some things
and drop some people who have no ambition or interest in personal growth and development, from our
friendship list in order to ensure that we are productive and not distracted. Distraction
leads to failure. Life should be about
success, not one failure after another.
The people with whom we should spend time are those who inspire,
motivate, appreciate, encourage and support our efforts.
In conclusion, I would like to leave
you three tips for staying on purpose.
We use these methods in coaching.
(1) Seek
clarity through daily prayer and meditation. Once you have done your self-evaluation
by asking yourself the questions mentioned above and you are clear about the
issues or problems you would like to address, you will be ready to set your
goals.
(2) Set
SMART goals and stick to your plan of action. When you make a commitment to
change or do something to transform your life, setting SMART goals will help
you stay focused, as you will need to stay focused in order to achieve your
goals. The acronym SMART stands for Specific, Measurable Attainable, Relevant
and Time Specific. Application of this method helps maintain the discipline
needed to succeed.
(3)
Get someone to hold you accountable. You will
face obstacles as you set out to accomplish your goals and sometimes you may
feel like giving up, this is where your accountability partner comes in, he/she can help you stay on track, by
reminding you of the goals you set and encouraging you to find solutions to
solve the problems, rather than throwing your hands in the air and giving up.
